very central location, clean wet room, good fan

The single-glazed windows offer zero sound insulation, leading to sleepless nights!!! Emergency exit plans seem nonexistent, adding to safety concerns. The lack of onsite staff makes this more of a rental than an inn!!!

    comfortable bed
    noisy neighborhood

The room was exceptionally comfortable, featuring a large, plush bed that made for a delightful night's sleep.

The window's single-pane design did little to mitigate the noise from the lively nearby bars and revellers at night.

Basic Accommodations, but Not Ideal for Peace Seekers

I spent 4 nights in a tiny room with a musty smell and noisy student bars nearby. Locking up felt awkward, and I never interacted with staff after check-in. Beware of the drunks outside blocking entry.

    secure entry
    spacious kitchen
    distracting noise
    lack of signage
    tricky entrance

Secure entry with several locks made entering the property feel safe and welcoming. The shared kitchen impressed with its spacious layout and variety of appliances, perfect for casual dining. the lack of noticeable signage on the street made finding the entrance a bit tricky, and the noise from nearby bars could be distracting at times. a pleasant stay despite some minor inconveniences.

I had a wonderful stay with an immaculate room and a fully equipped kitchen, but the street noise was quite bothersome at night. I'd consider staying here again.

    super comfy bed
    great location
    noisy windows

i recently attended a wedding ceremony in edinburgh and my stay at the thistle exceeded my expectations. the superior king room was immaculate, featuring a super comfy bed and spotlessly clean amenities. the location made it so easy to explore the city, and the personal touches from the staff were fantastic.

the windows let in too much noise.

The double room was surprisingly comfy for a few nights, with attention to details that made it a cozy retreat after a long day. The shared kitchen stood out, well-equipped for whipping up a quick meal when the hunger strikes.

Street noise could be a real nuisance, particularly for light sleepers—definitely bring earplugs unless you fancy being serenaded by nightlife. The entrance leaves much to be desired with graffiti and a drab hallway that might make you second-guess your choice. the mattress in room #2 was pretty firm and could use an upgrade for a more restful sleep. And the locking situation? Three doors to navigate with various guidelines isn’t exactly intuitive.

    super comfy bed
    immaculate room
    attention to detail
    street noise
    lack of sound insulation

I stayed in a Superior King Room and it was just lovely! The bed was super comfy and really made a difference after a long day exploring. Everything was immaculate, and the attention to detail was impressive—fresh water and cute biscuits waiting for me. The color scheme of the room and the entire place was nice too! Just a heads-up though, the street noise at night could be a bit much, so maybe bring earplugs just in case. All in all, a cozy stay!

    shared kitchen

A proper fit for a weekend pause in Edinburgh with very good value for money. The shared kitchen had everything needed for cooking a simple meal. Bring earplugs if you're sensitive to street noise at night.
